Dr Lavitha obtained her Doctor in Medicine (MD) degree from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 2000. She then pursued her Masters in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in UKM and qualified as a specialist in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in 2008. She went on to get an overseas specialist qualification by passing the membership exams with the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in London, and was conferred the MRCOG in 2011.

She then pursued subspeciality training in the niche field of Paediatric & Adolescent Gynaecology (PAG), and completed her fellowship in 2016 at the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) Melbourne. She was the first Malaysian to obtain the International Fellowship in Paediatric Adolescent Gynaecology (IFEPAG) in the same year in Florence, Italy.

She is the 4th Paediatric & Adolescent Gynaecologist in Malaysia and was the first PAG specialist to serve in the Ministry of Health Malaysia from 2016.

Prior to her current role, Dr Lavitha has served in public service in various general hospitals in Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia spanning over 22 years. Her last posting was as a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist and PAG Specialist at Hospital Ampang, Selangor, until 2023.

She has vast clinical experience in managing patients with a variety of problems related to pregnancy and gynaecological issues. Dr Lavitha is well trained in performing open, laparoscopic (keyhole) and vaginal surgery. Having worked in Ampang Hospital which is the haematology referral centre in Malaysia, Dr Lavitha has extensive experience in treating menstrual issues in women and girls with bleeding and clotting disorders.

Dr Lavitha is also passionate about teaching and remains a guest lecturer to medical students from the M. Kandiah Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman. She often speaks at conferences and seminars as an invited speaker both locally and internationally.
